Black Summer

Eucalyptus breeze.

Vapours of blue billowing

through the foliage,

like lithe fingers gently raked

through soft waves of silken hair.

Hazy heat distorts.

Orange tongues lashing towards

inky black smoke clouds.

Birds fly screaming from their nests,

at least the fortunate ones.

Moisture returns, a

long-awaited miracle.

Rains blanket the dust,

Quelling down the rampant rage.

After, smouldering silence.
